Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is clinical hypnosis, and what is it like to be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is the induction of a natural state of consciousness in which a person is more open to accepting and acting upon suggestions. It is generally a pleasant and relaxing experience, similar to watching TV or listening to a radio in the background while relaxing with your eyes closed.

During a session, you may experience one or more of the following:

    • The sensation of feeling lighter or floating
    • A pleasant heaviness in your body
    • Tingling sensations
    • You may feel like you are close to sleeping or partially dreaming
    • Seeing colours
    • Nothing in particular - it just feels like you are sitting there with your eyes closed

    Following hypnosis people often:

    • Comment about feeling great and very relaxed
    • Have a positive side-effect of improved sleep

  • Does hypnosis work virtually?

Yes! When you can't leave your home or don't have time to travel to our office, hypnosis works just as well online as it does in person. To benefit from online hypnotherapy, you will need:

    • A strong internet connection
    • A computer, tablet, or other devices with good sound and camera quality
    • A comfortable place in your home where you won't be disturbed
    • Headphones or earbuds to make it easier to be fully immersed in the hypnosis
    • Devices like phones to be put on silent to prevent notification from breaking your trance
  • What conditions can benefit from hypnosis?

Hypnosis can help aid in pain management, recovery from illness or surgery (in consultation with your physician), enhance motivation, and acquire more desirable habits (such as healthy eating and exercise). It can help you heal from various conditions, including:

    • Mental health, depression, anxiety
    • PTSD
    • Pain management
    • Health issues
    • Weight loss
    • Smoking cessation
    • Elimination of specific fears and phobias

  • Will I be conscious, and will I remember what happened during hypnosis?

You are not asleep during hypnosis - you remain aware and conscious.  You may not remember everything said in detail - only the general gist and some relevant details, similar to the highlights one recalls from a long conversation they have with someone.

  • Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

Absolutely not! Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. It is part of our brain wave cycle, as are sleep and fully conscious states. You maintain control during the entire session.
